OEC C-arm 9800 C-arm Monitor Upgrade. Is it worth it?

GE OEC 9800 C-arm Monitor Upgrade.

Heck yeah, it is worth it!!! For most surgery center still using a GE OEC 9800 C-arm, a LCD monitor upgrade is an absolutely a huge step up—It is fast way to make your c-arm look much newer than it is.

Why it can be worth it

The original 9800 uses older CRT-style. (old school monitors) Modern LCD/LED upgrade kits provide:

  • Larger viewing area
  • Sharper image presentation
  • Higher brightness and contrast
  • Better touchscreen responsiveness
  • Reduced eye fatigue during long procedures
  • A user experience closer to an OEC 9900 without replacing the entire C-arm

Many upgrade kits also retain the original touchscreen functions and can be installed relatively quickly. We can do the installation under an hour. Fastest install west of the Mississippi

Typical cost

$14,900 with installation.

When should you upgrade?

  • Your CRT monitors are getting blurry, or images have been burnt in
  • Surgeons complain about image quality.
  • If you are planning on keeping your OEC 9800 c-arm for another few years.

Don’t Upgrade

  • If you are looking to sell or upgrade the entire c-arm

A monitor upgrade improves what the physician sees, but it does not improve the actual image chain (image intensifier, camera, generator, or processing electronics). The image will look better, but it won’t turn a worn-out 9800 into a new system.

My Thoughts:

If your 9800 c-arm is mechanically sound and producing good images, a monitor upgrade is usually money well spent. The c-arm should last you another 10 years. Spending another 15K for displays is often far more economical than replacing the entire unit with a newer 9900 or Elite, especially for pain management, orthopedics, and surgery centers.
